Americans faced and overcame numerous challenges.

Approaches to the challenges the U.S. faced varied between groups and individuals.

We have been referencing this work in our district as teacher teams are writing curriculum and assessments. I am noticing some issues with some the disaggregation work as we go along. It is likely I will be posting quite a few more, so apologies in advance.

The student friendly language leaves this open to the present where the standard frames the time period and I'm wondering about the term demonstrate. I like the Do. I think we need to beef up the understand- perhaps a connection with reconstruction to the growth if the industrial US?  and Gilded is spelled incorrectly. A "Do" to the effect of-- use questions to assess the significance of Progressive era groups on historical problems and the lasting impact to society.....

  1. I do think the SFL needs to be reworked. I also wonder about the key groups and key individuals in the Know box. Arent those things we will cover anyway? Do they need to be listed? Maybe the Social, political, economic issues should be moved over to the understand box?

  2. I agree that the SFL needs to be reworked to be limited to the eras in question. The KUD's need a lot of work too.

I would suggest in the K's that the following changes be made:
    - Reconstruction Era
    - Gilded Age
    - Progressive Era
    - Social Problems (Racial and Gendered)
    - Political Problems (Policies and Reforms)
    - Economic Problems (Reconstruction)
    - Reform leaders (individuals)
    - Social movements (groups)
    - Reactions to key events

    Understand
Different sections of society reacted differently to the problems during the era

There were problems reflected through social, economic and political lenses

Ideology, race and gender played a role in different reform movements

Progressive reforms led to many changes in the daily life of peoples in the U.S.

    Do

Investigate various social, economic and political problems during the Reconstruction and Progressive eras

Evaluate reforms and reactions from different groups and individuals that addressed various problems
